• 1.Nowadays, the crime “offence against public safety “(“The Crime”) circulates on TV and social media frequently. While some of the accused of The Crime deserve punishments, some do not. One “offence against public safety “case took place at the beginning of 2017---a Taiwan’s judge was driving in Ilan and crashed by someone who ran the traffic light and he, thinking he was not to blame, left the scene. Even though it was proven that he was not responsible for the accident, he was still convicted of The Crime. It appears that if people did not pay enough attention, people would very likely be convicted of The Crime. To avoid this kind of matter from happening, I wrote this for our reader. I hope this article would help as many people as possible avoid committing The Crime.

Let’s take a close look at The Crime---“A person who flees after the motor vehicle he drives has caused an accident resulting in death or injury of another shall be sentenced to imprisonment for not less than one year but less than seven years.” Three points are worthy of paying attention to---“accidents caused”,” resulting in death or injury of another”,” flee.” (1)As for the point “accident caused,” it should be noticed that accidents must be caused while people are driving motor vehicles, if not, people would have nothing to do with The Crime. Accidents here include but not limited to accidents caused by crashing other people negligently (crashing other people on purpose? It’s MURDER!!), as a sudden stop that makes other people fall over and hurt is one typical example of The Crime. (2) As for the point “resulting in death or injury of another,” it must be known that invisible injuries or little scratches are considered a kind of injury, so people need to confirm the one crashed is not hurt at all before leaving. (3)As for the point “flee,” it is the major reason The Crime was enacted, as the chance of survival of victims would rise significantly if all people who caused accidents stayed on the scene and called the ambulance for the victims. However, sometimes people truly need to leave for something urgent; in this case, people need to remember to leave a name card or else to make other people able to find them; otherwise it is probable that this kind “leaving without traces” behavior would be considered a sort of “flee “in the court.
• 3. To sum up, in the future, if readers encounter situations mentioned above, please stay where you are and call the police and ambulance; it is the best way to avoid being convicted of The Crime.
